Doug Detwiller

Living in Gibsons, British Columbia, located on the West Coast of Canada, Doug has always been involved in outdoor activities, and mountain biking quickly became one of his passions. He is involved in all aspects of the sport from trail maintenance and building to racing. His has taken his enthusiasm for the sport, and his work as a teacher and combined them to create the Sprockids Program. Sprockids is all about involving young people in the life long healthy sport of mountain biking while teaching them the skills, values, and strategies to succeed in school and in life. Since the programs conception in 1990, Doug has been honoured with numerous awards for his work with young people, and today Sprockids is recognised internationally as the leading mountain biking program for young people. The program is currently happening in 17 countries! In 2002 Doug teamed up with the Canadian Cycling Association to develop the National “Introductory to Cycling” Program for Canada. Doug continues to be the driving force behind Sprockids and is constantly developing new material for the program, leading seminars, workshops, and clinics around North America.
